Map of City Parks

The City of Rahway takes pride in its natural environment. In addition to the Rahway River, which winds through the City, Rahway is designated as a “Tree City USA” and is home to numerous parks and playgrounds maintained by the City. Also included is Union County’s beautiful Rahway River Park, designed in the early 20th century by the Olmstead Brothers firm, sons of famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead. Ninety-seven percent of Rahway’s residents live within a ten minute walk of at least one park. Five of Rahway’s playgrounds have undergone renovations in the past year to add more fun features for children, along with safety resurfacing.

SofSURFACE Updates

The City of Rahway has renovated and reopened multiple City playgrounds over the last year. Updated with SofSURFACES' state-of-the-art duraSAFE rubber tiles now cover the ground beneath the playground, ensuring additional safety for children as they play.

Playgrounds with updated surfaces:

  • Madden Field - 886 Elston St.
  • Stein Field - Jefferson Ave & Concord St.
  • Williams Field - 533 Lower Alden Dr.
  • Brennan Field - 777 Ferndale Place.
  • Howard Field - 1347 Stockton St.

Grover Cleveland Field

Grover Cleveland will see the almost 20 year old play structure removed and replaced with a play structure consisting of “Overhead Components” to build upper body strength and endurance, improve eye-hand coordination and elevate children’s self-confidence, “Multi-User components” that offer children the opportunity to play together and work toward a common goal, and “Play Panels” that encourage exploration, interaction, and develop fine-motor skills for children of all abilities.  The safety surface and playground border are also being upgraded with the installation of DuraSafe playground tiles: a soft, spongy material designed and tested against federal standards, to safely break a child’s fall and reduce injury.

Splash Park

Brennan Field will see the overgrown, underutilized baseball field transformed into a splash park that features multiple water apparatuses including a Silly Shower, Mushroom Maze, Water Web, Water Spout, Water Wickets, Fill N’ Spill, and more.  Since the mid-2000s, splash parks have increasingly become a popular, less costly alternative to community swimming pools.  With the closest community pool just under 3 miles away, the Splash Park at Brennan Field will give residents a walkable option for aquatic fun.
